“’s 2011, drop that religious superstitious bs.”

February 19, 2011

That was what it said in one of the comments I came across in one of my previous entries. Wasn’t offended or anything but definitely felt compelled to write back to the author. Thought I’d share it with you all.

I hope this reaches you well. I was checking up on comments on my blog and come across yours so I thought I’d reach out as well. What is worth pointing out is your reference to the “religious superstitious” aspect. I don’t know how much you’ve actually been following my spiritual growth or walk with God in the last 3 years or so. I’ve been pretty open in sharing via my music and various youtube video blogs what my walk has been like. Of course, I’m not gonna assume that everyone’s seen them, you included. Anyhow, the point I want to make is that, the more I learn about God, myself and Christianity as a faith, the more I actually believe that it is not about “being religious” or superstition for that matter.

Truthfully, it’s not something that can be summed up in one sentence or one email for that matter.

You’re right, it is 2011. I don’t know your age but I’m almost 30. Be it the highest of highs or lowest of lows, I’ve experienced it all.

God has been patient, loving, graceful and so much more all along. Foolish me, not cherishing these gifts all these years.

Many believe (including myself) that one of God’s greatest gifts to man is freewill. I respect your views and opinions enough to not impose any of my own on you. With that said, I genuinely wish you all the best in any direction you take!

God bless,

As often as I can, I try to catch up on emails. Most of the time is spent deleting spam, but I do eventually get around to replying to questions/comments/suggestions/etc.

As I was sorting thru and cleaning out the inbox, I came across this reply I sent to “S”. Mind you, me and “S” have never met. I guess you can say we’re kinda like penpals.

In his previous email, he was sharing with me a difficult decision he was facing.  He was thinking about whether he should join the armed forces or not in hopes of providing a better life for himself and his family.

This is what I wrote back to him.

I do remember praying for him right after I sent that email off. I don’t know if he ended up making a final decision yet, but I hope he’s been able to find some peace and clarity.

Completely forgetting about this email, to come across it again just reminded me that to be able to bless others is a blessing in itself.

By the way, my inbox is open 24/7.

Going deeper.

Here’s the story.

During a recent morning, I was dealing with some personal issues that had me really emotionally charged and just acting in a manner that was totally uncalled for. During my emotional meltdown, I said some really mean things to someone that really should be the last person that I should treat in such an awful manner.

After a bit of cool off time, my senses came back to me and I felt really compelled to pray for repentance for my behavior. Coincidentally (or not), I happened to notice a church located on a block that I often pass by, but never realized was there. The first thing that caught my attention was a huge sign outside by the door that said, “Visitors welcome.”

So visit I did.

I walked in really with no intention other than to find a nice quiet place where I could just be still and  pray.

Within a few steps, I passed by this painting and immediately couldn’t help but chuckle out loudly.

In my mind I’m thinking, “Ha, check this out.. Jesus just chillin’ with some Chinese kids.”

I guess I found it particularly amusing since not once or twice, but actually more than a few times, I’ve encountered individuals who upon finding out about my faith make the comment, (more…)

Out with the old.

November 13, 2010

I want to wish a [[Happy Birthday]] to a friend, spiritual mentor and good brother of mine, Jaeson Ma aka JMa. As we celebrate another year of your time here on this planet, I pray the Lord continues to lift you up in His glory! May He fill you with more wisdom, clarity and courage.

JMa is probably the only guy that I know who would rather give a gift on his birthday than to receive one. So he gives us his latest musical offering, Glory.

After an initial listen, here’s my first reaction in

According to (one of my favorite websites btw!)..

–noun, plural -gies.

a hymn or form of words containing an ascription of praise to God.
At today’s church service, the pastor gave a sermon on Jude 1:24-25. Afterwards, he asked everyone in attendance to take out a sheet of paper and pen. He suggested we take some time to think and write our own doxology.
He gave us a simple phrase to start with.
My God is able to..
For God my Saviour through Jesus is..
At first, I tried to really put a lot of thought and concentration into it. Eventually, I just wrote down what was in my heart at the time.

My God is able to..

change my life for the better that I could not do on my own accord, using me  as a walking testimony of His glory.

For God my Saviour through Jesus is..

my best friend, my inspiration and my Father.

Reaching out.

October 30, 2010

I was recently contacted by a organization who specializes in assisting and serving the youth called Reach Out to do an online video interview sharing some of my life and career experiences.

As described on their wesbite,  “Reach Out is an information and support service using evidence based principles and technology to help teens and young adults facing tough times and struggling with mental health issues.”

Here I am sharing some insight into the world and mind of Jin. Why I am referring to myself in the third person, I have no idea.

I can really appreciate what the good folks over at Reach Out are doing.

Thank you for creating such a meaningful platform to serve those that may be going thru times of challenge and adversity. You can find out more about what they do at their website

The latest and greatest..

I recently released a mixtape. Of the 15 different unsigned artists that I did songs with on the project, there were certain ones that used profanity in their lyrics.

This apparently caught some of the listeners who downloaded the mixtape off guard. The overall sentiment was.. “Jin, this isn’t Christian rap..”

I do want to apologize for not giving everyone the heads up.

I can appreciate their sincere interest in what I do and their input on the direction that I take my music. This mixtape content wise, may not suit everyone’s taste, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume that that’s the case with any type of musical project.

The upside is that in the midst of all this I was inspired to write this post just very briefly examining the concept of “Christian rap” and my own personal take on it.

Here I am soaking up the comments (more…)

October 26, 2010

I was checking out various youtube clips of a new artist and came across this comment. Who wrote the comment and the artist it’s being written about isn’t that important.

I couldn’t help but be struck by what I was reading.

“weed, music, cash.

something to look up to”

I would never dare to pass judgement on this person (more…)
