You are the Reason.

May 21, 2011

This could be an original. This could be a remix of another song. I’m not sure..

I do know for a fact it spoke directly to my heart.

“I never thought about it but You’re my everthing,

and You will be there when I give my girl her wedding ring.”

This song is a perfect example of why I never turn down the offer to check out new music, even if it’s from a random email.

This ain’t just music..

“It’s quite plain to see..

without music I don’t know where I’d be. Now I’m feelin’ like I’m finally free..

but this ain’t just music to me..”

Let’s see.. where do I start?

I can’t express enough how overwhelmed I am by all the positive feedback and insight for the Sincerely Yours EP. It is so encouraging and inspiring to see how the music is speaking to the hearts and minds of so many listeners. Once again, thank you all! The music is sincerely yours!

Since the momentum is at such a great pace, let’s keep it going..

I do have much more music on the way and some recent releases that I’ve been involved in so I thought I’d group them all together for your convenience. Considerate ain’t I?

I will be releasing my 2nd Cantonese album in Hong Kong this coming August. The first single is a track called 人氣急升 (pronounced YUN HAY GUP SING). The concept of the track is me sharing how everything has just been on a steady uprise for me and my career in the past 2 and half years since I’ve moved to Hong Kong. As my career is continuously prospering, I’m saying that it is a must to “stay calm” for everyone.. most importantly, myself. Production wise, it has a old school boom bap feel to it..

There’s only word to describe this next track.. AIYA! Me and Toestah dedicating this one to all the #AIYAfambam! Find yourself?

A few months back Derek from Magnetic North reached out and said they were doing a track with Taiyo Na for Asian Heritage Month. I heard the track and said “Count me in!”

Me and J Reyez are just like you.

Many years ago, I did a track with two good brothers Chan (he had a Snacky in front that back then) and LS.. 2011.. we still here.

Lastly, JL x Manifest will be releasing their mixtape ‘PULL.HAUL.JUNKIES.’ soon.. This is a sampler. I’m not on the sampler.. I am on the mixtape. :)

Just appetizers…:D

Vancity, what’s up..

The message.

After one day since it’s online release, the Sincerely Yours EP has received around 4k downloads.

Not that numbers matter.. What does matter is that the music speaks to the listener, be it 1 or 1,000.

On that note, I want to thank you all for continuing to spread the word about the project.

As well, I want to really express my sincerest appreciation for all of your continued @tweets, emails and comments sharing your thoughts on the music.

I am overwhelmed, humbled, encouraged and inspired by it all.

All the glory goes to God for it is Him who inspires what I write and record when I step in that booth.

Dear God.. the recognition, credit and honor is sincerely Yours.

A very special daily 3min vlog.

Inspired.

I was pretty blown away by this.

All I sent them was a simple video clip greeting. Whoever edited this did a great job.

Vancity, here I come.

This was epic.

It actually makes more sense to start from 100 and work your way up.

I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

Recap.

March 14, 2011

Heading back to HK in less than 48 hours.

Definitely made the most of my time stateside these past two weeks. . .

Tied the knot.

Flew out to LA where I started and finished working on my first English album in 5 years.

Birthed the AIYA Movement.

Recorded a song w/ Mr. Traphik & DFD then shot the video for it subsequently.

Shot a video for the first single off my upcoming Cantonese album release in August.

Flew back to NY.

Shot another video for another song off the upcoming Cantonese album.

Only one word to summarize the whole experience: AIYA.

Time is of the essence.

Nitty gritty.

October 31, 2010

More inspiration..

Her name is Nitty Scott MC. She’s got a youtube video making it’s rounds online where she is absolutely wreaking havoc on the mic during a freestyle after being interviewed. Naturally, the Nicki Minaj comparisons kick in.. who’s nicer.. female mcs.. etc etc.

Gender issues aside, I was amazed by her confidence, presence and lyrical prowess just to name a few things that stood out about her in the ever growing sea of rappers/mcs. If I’m not mistaken, she’s only 19-20?, which makes some of the substance in her content even more admirable in comparison to her other rap peers, male or female.

I believe right now, she’s still unsigned. I doubt she will be for long though. A track called “Hear I am” was all that’s found via a quick youtube search song wise. No hook. Just Nitty gritty bars.

“..and to be honest, why do we need the term ‘to be honest’?, if your words alone should be somethin’ honest.”

Taking into consideration her young age, with time, she will only get better. I’ll be keeping my ears open.

To me, a dope mc is a dope mc. However, if dope female mcs happened to be the topic of discussion, you’d have to include (more…)
